Should I stay or should I go?

Cristiano Ronaldo and Madrid

Almost definitely the best player in the World at the moment, notching up 41 goals from a wide position this season is an incredible achievement, however, there are five very good reasons as to why Ronaldo might not be at Old Trafford next season.

Uno

After this coming Wednesday, Ronaldo could be part of a Champions League winning team, and as such, would of won everything that English football has put before him: Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Community Shield & the Champions League. Other than money, what other motivation is there for such a driven player?

Dos

Euro 2008, a month away with mainly players based on the continent, and more importantly a month away from Sir Alex Fergusons iron grip to ward away any potential suitors, agents et al. After the last major tournament (WC 2006) Ronaldo look all but certain to be moving to warmer climes, not seeing a future in England after the Rooney debacle, however, it was Ferguson who masterminded his return, would it work for a second time?

Tres

Ronaldos mother on Real Madrid

"They are my favourite team, the best in the world," she said.

"If one day he were to leave England then I would really like to see him go to Madrid."

With Cristianos mother having a great say in his life; Girlfriends, houses and football clubs. This is nothing to be sniffed at, especially as she gets older Ronaldo naturally would prefer to be around his mother who reportedly has breast cancer, Madrid would obviously be closer to his home island of Madeira, where his family resides.

Cuatro

If Manchester United come out on top in Moscow on Wednesday, then the only thing perhaps to keep Ronaldo at Manchester would be money. Cristiano at moment has a contract up to the year 2012 of a reported £140,000 a week. Real Madrid would have a contract of up to £200,000, sighting his merchandising potential to balance the large wage. According to some news sources Ronaldo has asked for a new contract and his wishes were turned down as he has four years left to run on his current deal.

Cinco

Ronaldo himself has been making some noises about a potential move, he was recently quizzed at United Carrington training ground by the Spanish media, saying..

"I am happy here but let's see what happens after the Champions League final.

"I'm feeling calm here, I'm happy here but in the future I don't know."

Hardly slamming the door shut on transfer speculation, is it? Over the last few years he has claimed that it is his 'dream' to play in Madrid however 'dreams don't always happen', this sort of Euro pansy talk can't be too pleasing to neutrals or Manchester United supporters, however I think that most are resigned to Ronaldo leaving, maybe not this season or the next but he won't be in England by the next Euro championships.
